JOB SUMMARY:

Data Engineers are responsible for designing and creating the data warehouse and all related extraction, transformation, and load of data functions. They should be able to analyze and understand what a business aims to achieve with its data and design the best possible ETL/BI processes around those goals.

DESCRIPTION:

Data Warehouse / ETL
  • Participate in developing Data Models and Data Marts from various source systems.
  • Develop and maintain ETL scripts that acquire data from source systems to load into the Staging Area, Data Warehouse, and Data Marts, based on data flow designs.
  • Identify and develop opportunities to utilize objects and code to reduce development effort and enforce consistent business rules.
  • Identify opportunities for analysis and reporting solutions within the company.
  • Participate in evaluating and selecting Data Modeling, BI, and DW tools.
  • Translate business requirements into technical Data Models and Data Marts.
  • Understand key business drivers.
  • Contribute to the overall development of the BI strategy within the company.
  • Provide input and feedback on the BI strategy vision.
  • Communicate BI concepts and strategy to business users.
Reporting & Drafting
  • Document all development work according to company standards.
  • Support team members in a collaborative environment.
  • Assist in establishing standards and processes for BI data modeling.
  • Communicate task status, progress, and issues to the project lead.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, BIT, BBIT, or a related field; a master's degree is preferred.
  • 3-4 years of experience in data engineering or related fields with exposure to Big Data methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge of RDBMS and SQL.
  • Familiarity with ETL tools like Talend, Informatica, SSIS, or IBM Infosphere DataStage.
  • Experience with Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Cloudera, or Talend for Big Data is preferred.
