AKUH is the first hospital in Pakistan to be awarded the prestigious Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) for practicing the highest internationally-recognized healthcare standards.

The Department of Medicine at The Aga Khan University Hospital, comprises of independent sections of Cardiology, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Neurology, and Pulmonary & Critical Care. The Department has over 70+ full-time Faculty with a strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate education and research. Residency Programs are offered in Internal Medicine, Neurology, Adult Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Pulmonary Medicine, Nephrology and Dermatology, as well as Fellowship Programs in Clinical Neurophysiology & Electrodiagnostic Medicine, Diabetes, Endocrinology & Metabolism, Interventional Cardiology and Infectious Diseases.

The Aga Khan University invites applications for a grant-funded contractual position of Senior Instructor, CITRIC Health Data Science Centre in the Department of Medicine.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible to:

  • develop data-driven models based on available health data and disease characteristics
  • validate and refine models using historical data and epidemiological patterns
  • customize models for specific diseases, conditions, situations and populations
  • perform simulation runs to model disease spread under various conditions
  • apply statistical techniques to identify patterns, trends, and risk factors
  • conduct hypothesis testing to assess associations
  • disseminate findings through publications, reports and presentations
  • supervise and mentor team members in disease modelling and surveillance
  • conduct workshops on disease modelling techniques and data analysis
  • review scientific literature on disease modelling trends and methodologies
  • analyze potential funding opportunities
  • identify grants aligned with research objectives
  • prepare grant applications tailored to funding preferences.
Requirements

You should have:

  • a Master's or Ph.D. degree in data science, computer science, statistics, or a related field
  • at least three years of progressive experience in leading and managing data science projects, preferably within academic or public health research settings
  • proven track record of mentoring and training researchers, faculty, and staff in data science methodologies and techniques
  • strong expertise in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data modelling
  • proven experience in data science projects and developing AI models
  • demonstrated ability to mentor and train others in data science methodologies
  • proficiency in machine learning, statistical modelling and artificial intelligence techniques, with a strong understanding of their application in health data analytics
  • expertise in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL, along with proficiency in data manipulation and visualization libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, and Seaborn)
  • demonstrated ability to lead data science projects, collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, and mentor others in data science methodologies and best practices
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to diverse audiences and stakeholders
  • strong analytical skills with the ability to critically analyse complex datasets, identify patterns, and derive actionable insights
  • strong communication skills for dissemination through manuscripts, articles, reports, and other publications
  • familiarity with applying data science techniques to complex datasets, preferably in a health-related context.
