Aga Khan University, a private, self-governing international university chartered in Pakistan in 1983, is a role model for academic, research and service programmes in health and higher education in the developing world. The University currently has teaching sites in Pakistan, East Africa, United Kingdom and Afghanistan, and is a major component of Aga Khan Development Network.

The Department for Educational Development (DED) serves as the hub of educational activities for the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) comprising of Medical College and School of Nursing & Midwifery, Aga Khan University as well as other national and international institutions. DED strives to achieve this by introducing philosophical underpinnings and promoting excellence in undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate education through academic programmes, courses and other faculty development initiatives. The department promotes innovative curricula, technology-enhanced learning, excellence in assessment, and educational leadership for creating a conducive learning environment.

Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Chair, Department for Educational Development which will be based in Karachi, Pakistan.

Responsibilities

The Chair will provide dynamic academic and administrative leadership to the Department and will have an overall responsibility for the fulfillment of its educational and research mandate consistent with the vision and mission of AKU. The Chair will be responsible for developing and implementing the strategic vision of the department, overseeing operational matters, ensuring effective development, delivery and quality assurance of educational programmes, faculty development, promotion of educational scholarship and collaborations with other stakeholders to meet the departmental overall mandate for excellence in health professions education.

Requirements
  • Applicants should have undergraduate/graduate/post-graduate qualifications in health sciences. Preference will be given to candidates with Masters and/or PhD in Health Professions Education/Medical Education/Education.
  • Applicants must have experience of academic administration and demonstrable commitment to scholarship in health professions education/medical education.
  • Candidates with an academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor and a well-established track record of leadership are encouraged to apply.
