Job Responsibilities
  • Ensure proper handover and take over with detailed notes in the register as per protocols.
  • Ensure timely dispensing and distribution of medication, maintaining patient profiles and CPOE for rational drug use, preventing drug interactions, and promoting rational drug use.
  • Contact physicians for inaccuracies in medication orders and document interventions (accepted or rejected). Rejected interventions will be shared with the clinical team for presentation to the formulary committee.
  • In case of non-availability of medicine, contact the physician for switching to available alternatives or substitutes. If not possible, process for non-formulary arrangements through NFI policy.
  • Ensure all orders are processed timely and medications are promptly delivered to the nursing unit.
  • Monitor and manage inventory stock levels and manage supplies as needed.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Prepare and forward departmental requisitions to the warehouse.
  • Receive supplies, check batches, expiry dates, quantities, packaging, and cold chain requirements, and shelve stock in proper locations at specified temperatures.
  • Ensure light-sensitive, cytotoxic, high-alert, and look-alike/sound-alike drugs are stored appropriately.
  • Dispense medicines directly to patients at the OPD pharmacy, counsel patients, and respond to queries.
  • At oncology/cytotoxic stations, prepare patient protocols, check patient profiles and baseline labs, generate protocol copies, and double-check protocols and drugs before issuance.
  • Handle intrathecal drugs as per protocols, review patient profiles, and ensure correct diagnosis, age, and protocol/phase.
  • Counter-check and sign off on chemotherapy regimens and hand over chemo to nursing staff for administration, documenting any non-administration or refunds.
