The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at The Aga Khan University is a dynamic academic center which serves the diagnostic needs of the country through its clinical laboratory services that spreads across Pakistan. AKUH's Clinical Laboratory is College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited and caters to the need of the entire country through its tertiary lab at the main campus and 300+ specimen collection units and 13 stat labs across Pakistan. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine consists of five major sections namely Chemical Pathology, Haematology and Transfusion Medicine, Histopathology, Microbiology, and Molecular Pathology. Each section is academically driven and is highly engaged in research and undergraduate, postgraduate teaching and training.

The Section of Haematology and Transfusion Medicine consists of three subsections: Routine & Special Haematology, Haemostasis/Thrombosis & Transfusion Medicine. The section strives to provide the highest standard of hematological care with state-of-the-art laboratory employing up-to-date techniques such as Haematology Automation, Inherited Thromophilia testing and transfusion medicine services which caters to in-hospital transfusion request and four secondary hospitals as well. The section receives referrals for Haematology diagnostic investigation from all over Pakistan. The residents have daily hands-on practical training during routine daily sign-out with consultants. They are encouraged to do research and get papers published in peer reviewed journals under the supervision of the sectional faculty.

You will be responsible to:

• report and interpret of all tests being performed in the Haematology section
• participate in institutional CME and public awareness program
• participate in departmental administrative committee as assigned by section head/Dept chairperson
• actively participate in quality audits and initiatives such as college of American Pathologist (CAP), Joint commission international accreditation (JCIA) and others
• To participate in sectional/ Departmental/ Institutional/ National and International meetings/ conferences/ sessions/ workshops etc

You should have:

• a MBBS degree with FCPS/FRCPath/American Board certified or equivalent 
• training as a fellow/ equivalent for a minimum of 4 years in reputable institution, and/or a diploma in the appropriate field
• demonstrated scholarship either through research or publication in peer reviewed indexed journal or by virtue of substantial contribution to education
