The Chief Technology Officer's role is to assure the successful execution of the company's business mission through development and deployment of the company's web presence. This requires envisioning the company's service offerings as a web-based business, leading implementation of web applications, and planning for risk and growth.

Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

  • In partnership with the company's founders, identify opportunities and risks for delivering the company's services as a web-based business, including identification of competitive services, opportunities for innovation, and assessment of marketplace obstacles and technical hurdles to the business success.
  • Identify technology trends and evolving social behavior that may support or impede the success of the business.
  • Evaluate and identify appropriate technology platforms (including web application frameworks and the deployment stack) for delivering the company's services.
  • Lead strategic planning to achieve business goals by identifying and prioritizing development initiatives and setting timetables for the evaluation, development, and deployment of all web-based services.
Job Specification

The CTO will have a proven track record of successfully leading and driving commercial SaaS product development, architecture, and infrastructure activities that provide best in class product offerings and support. You must be an excellent leader and communicator, passionate about building a world-class SaaS platform and a world-class organization and able to use technology as a key leverage point for the business. As part of the organizational leadership team, the CTO must be able to drive technology strategy.

Criteria include:

  • Computer Science or related field.
  • 6+ years of experience leading and managing technology teams, commercial software preferred.
  • Command on PHP.
  • Fluency with management system concepts and practices for a SaaS product in a public cloud environment – preferably in Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience with, and preference for, leveraging open source solutions.
  • Knowledge of Data Security, Secure Coding, Encryption, Multi-tenancy, Scalability, and High Availability.
  • Proven successful experience in and implementation of an Agile/Post-Agile development environment.
  • Proven experience to think and act strategically and proactively.
  • Ability to actively communicate, inspire, and motivate.
  • Experience with a mix of large enterprise customers as well as small, high-value customers.
  • Experience in implementing technology for a client base that runs the gamut from highly technical (real estate research staff) to non-technical (i.e. on-site property management to C-suite).
  • Willingness and desire to expand knowledge via constant reading, research, networking and other manners.
  • Experience and proven decision-making capabilities in real-world business problems – personnel, financial, business strategy, etc.
  • Experience with and knowledgeable in organizational development philosophies and approaches related to building high functioning teams and organizations.
