NOTE: This job requires extensive travelling and stay at outstation points.
Competent Books will provide free boarding, lodging, food, and TA/DA to the successful candidates.
Primary duties will include responsibility for staff training, including:
- Training new teachers regarding general running of a classroom.
- In-depth orientation for new employees, including teacher/child interactions and program planning (monthly).
- Teaching staff the importance of routines to help make transitions easier.
- Conducting exciting and varied circle time during orientation.
- Proper serving of lunch and snacks.
- Emphasizing the importance of buttoning, zipping jackets, and hats to show independence.
- Using different centers effectively and in an orderly manner.
- Observing and training experienced staff who may need to learn correct methods.
- Setting goals for experienced teachers to help them improve.
- Attending to directors' forms for teachers needing specific training.
- Arranging rooms as necessary with assistance from the Regional Director.
- Updating the handbook for teachers, including curriculum guidelines and teaching methods.
- Direct supervision of staff and schools, including weekly meetings with the Director of Curriculum.
- Ordering and distributing supplies and toys for classrooms.
- Communicating with floor directors about issues and concerns with staff and children (behavior).
- Checking schools for maintenance and supplies quarterly.
- Keeping abreast of new ideas by attending trainings and imparting information to the Director of Curriculum and staff.
- Supplying individualized monthly meeting notes to schools before staff meetings, with a copy to the Director of Curriculum.
- Updating libraries at schools monthly, including tracking missing books.
- Working with directors to ensure all schools follow the same procedures.
- Overseeing the maintenance of the environment and proper postings.
Yearly training includes Back to Basics, planning, circle time, progress reports, curriculum frameworks, and Teaching Strategies Gold. Accountability to the Director of Curriculum includes:
- Weekly meetings.
- Submitting a timesheet with hours worked and locations.
- Providing a projected work plan for the upcoming week by Friday.
- Maintaining a floor notebook at every site, discussing strengths and weaknesses with the Director of Curriculum.
The end result of having a full-time teacher trainer would be:
- Smoother running of each classroom.
- Continual improvement of all staff.
- Smoother operation of the school as a whole.
- New staff who know what to do.
- Seasoned staff who are continually improving.
Work with floor directors to assess each staff member and collaboratively make improvement plans. Floor directors will notify you (with a form) of teachers who they think need additional training. When you suggest a change in a teacher's methods, jot it down (sparingly) and provide a copy to the Floor Director.
