Why This Role Exists

We're building an end-to-end, production-ready pipeline that converts raw LiDAR and other 3-D data sources into precise roof-facet polygons. These polygons power the solar-design tools that help homeowners go solar faster and cheaper. Your mission is to architect and implement this workflow in C#—from data ingestion through geometry generation—achieving the accuracy and performance needed to scale nationwide. As we expand globally, you will be responsible for developing and optimising localised versions.

What You'll Do

1: Your Week-to-Week Impact

Design & build a brand-new C# pipeline that transforms LiDAR (and, when needed, computer-vision-derived) datasets into roof-facet polygons ready for our mapping engine and PostGIS database.

Own accuracy metrics. Establish benchmarks, run experiments, and iterate until our polygons meet solar-design tolerances.

Fuse data creatively. When LiDAR alone isn't enough, incorporate orthophotos, DEMs, or vision-derived raster layers to improve edge detection and facet delineation.

Ship to production. Package the workflow as a service consumed by our cloud-native solar-design platform.

Collaborate across disciplines. Translate geospatial concepts for product, data-science, and front-end teams so everyone can leverage your output.

2: How You'll Do It

• Craft performant, memory-safe code in modern .NET.

• Leverage open-source geospatial libraries (e.g., GDAL/OGR, NetTopologySuite).

• Pair algorithmic geometry techniques with pragmatic heuristics to reach sub-foot accuracy.

• Define automated QA harnesses against surveyed ground truth.

• Implement robust unit and integration tests.

• Build modular stages that snap disparate datasets into a common reference frame.

• Tune filters (slope, aspect, normals) and classification thresholds.

• Containerise with Docker, deploy via CI/CD.

• Optimise for concurrency and throughput.

• Lead code reviews and technical workshops.

• Document algorithms and decision points clearly.

Must-Haves

• 5 + years professional software engineering, in C#/.NET.
• Hands-on experience processing LiDAR, DSM/DTM, or point-cloud data.
• Strong grasp of computational geometry (polygonisation, simplification, smoothing).
• Familiarity with raster analysis pipelines (slope, aspect, zonal statistics, reclassification).
• Proven ability to squeeze performance from large geospatial datasets (tiling, indexing, multi-threading).
• Comfort with spatial databases (PostGIS, SQL Server Spatial, or equivalent).
• A scientific, experiment-driven mindset and obsession with accuracy.
• Excellent written & verbal English.
• GIS desktop skills (QGIS, ArcGIS) for ad-hoc analysis, visualization, research, and validation.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience fusing imagery and LiDAR or working alongside computer-vision teams.
• Knowledge of Solar PV design or building-roof CAD standards.
• Familiarity with Azure or AWS geospatial tooling.
