Senior Data Engineer Job Description

Job timings: Mon - Fri 6 PM - 3 AM Pakistan time, with a focus on evening shifts to accommodate the needs of the team and the project timeline.

  • Able to work on complex data-intensive projects with a strong emphasis on data quality, accuracy, and reliability.
  • Good understanding of Python, Spark best practices, and commonly used modules based on work experience and creating self-contained, reusable, and testable modules and components.
  • Responsible for prototyping, developing, and troubleshooting software in the user interface or service layers, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
  • Participate in collaborative technical discussions that focus on software user experience, design, architecture, and development, driving innovation and excellence.
  • Keep up-to-date with technology and apply new knowledge to improve processes and deliver results-oriented solutions.
  • Manage GitHub pull requests and act as release manager for some of the Data Engineering projects, ensuring smooth deployment and minimal downtime.
  • Experience with technical project documentation, including writing clear and concise guides and manuals.
  • Work with onsite/offshore teams and help the team in clearing blockers, fostering a culture of collaboration and open communication.
  • Ability to follow established coding standards and ensure consistency across the codebase.
Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, with a strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles.

  • Relational database experience is required, with a good understanding of database design, normalization, and query optimization.
  • Reporting experience is required (Jet, Power BI or Tableau), with a focus on data visualization and storytelling.
  • ETL experience and programming skills in at least one of the following languages: Java, Python, with a strong emphasis on data processing and manipulation.
  • The individual should be from a development background in data engineering, with a solid understanding of data pipelines, architectures, and workflows.
  • Experience working with onsite and offshore teams, with a focus on collaboration, communication, and problem-solving.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision, relying on experience, research, and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned goals.
  • Understanding of data archival strategy, including data retention, backup, and recovery procedures.
  • Strong complex problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with a focus on root cause analysis and resolution.
  • Ability to learn quickly and manage time effectively, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Proven written and oral communication skills, with a focus on clarity, concision, and impact.
