Skillful Cost Estimators play a crucial role in the packaging industry, ensuring accurate calculations for various packaging solutions.

We are seeking an analytical and meticulous Cost Estimator to join our team. As a key member of the production team, you will be responsible for accurately calculating costs associated with producing packaging solutions.

  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for packaging projects.
  • Accurately calculate material costs, including paperboard, corrugated, plastics, inks, coatings, and adhesives.
  • Estimate manufacturing costs, considering processes such as printing (offset, digital, flexo), die-cutting, gluing, folding, laminating, and assembly.
  • Estimate the final cost of custom boxes based on certain measurements.
  • Collaborate closely with sales, design, and production teams to gather necessary information, clarify project requirements, and ensure accurate estimates.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Source and obtain quotes from suppliers for raw material and finished custom boxes.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of cost data, including material prices, finished boxes, and logistics.
  • Identify and analyze cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or design integrity.
  • Prepare detailed and professional cost proposals for clients, outlining all included components and services.
  • Review and update existing estimates as project specifications change or market conditions fluctuate.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating processes and tools.
  • Assist in post-project analysis to compare estimated costs with actual costs, identifying discrepancies and areas for future improvement.

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of experience as a Cost Estimator, with a strong preference for experience within the packaging or printing industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of various packaging materials and their properties.
  • Solid understanding of packaging manufacturing processes, including printing techniques, converting, and finishing.
  • Proficiency in using estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration with internal teams and suppliers.
