Senior Cost Estimator Job Description

This senior role is responsible for preparing accurate and detailed construction cost estimates across various commercial and residential projects. As a key member of the estimating team, you will work closely with internal stakeholders and clients to deliver high-quality estimates that meet project requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and requests for proposals (RFPs) to ensure scope accuracy.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for materials, labor, and equipment.
  • Develop estimates using specialized software and collaborate with clients to clarify scope and pricing.
  • Lead and mentor junior estimators, providing guidance and support in developing their skills and expertise.
  • Contribute to bid strategies, value engineering, and cost-saving solutions to optimize project outcomes.
  • Maintain and update unit cost databases to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience in construction estimating, with a strong background in commercial or residential projects.
  • Proficiency in estimation tools, including Planswift, On-Screen Takeoff, and Bluebeam.
  • Deep understanding of building systems, construction processes, and relevant trades.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex plans and specifications.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, preferred.
