Backend Engineering Director

Job Description:

As a seasoned engineering leader, you will play a key role in shaping the future of our technology platform. You will lead a distributed backend engineering team, setting clear goals and driving execution.

You will translate business needs into a quarterly roadmap, ensuring alignment of estimates and architecture.

Delegate tasks effectively, balancing workload while maintaining momentum on the roadmap and technical debt.

Participate actively in architectural discussions and collaborate with product teams to design and develop new features.

Maintain high engineering standards through code reviews and feedback.

Handle complex, high-priority technical implementations.

Oversee release and deployment processes to ensure stability.

Identify root causes of recurring issues and work to reduce errors.

Conduct meaningful 1:1s, mentoring, and coaching engineers.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and reliable solutions.

Communicate transparently with stakeholders to ensure alignment.

Foster a motivated and collaborative team culture.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in backend software development at scale.
  • Deep expertise in Java and Spring Framework.
  • Strong understanding of microservices and distributed systems.
  • Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with CI/CD, containerization, and AWS.
  • Track record of resolving technical and process bottlenecks.
  • Leadership skills, preferably across multiple geographies.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience with error management, migrations, or scaling backend systems.
  • Background in e-commerce or large-scale platforms is a plus.
  • Experience working with external partners.
  • Curiosity about AI and emerging technologies.
