About the Role

This position is part of a team responsible for yield/phenotyping within an R&D organization. The trialing scientist will lead variety advancement and development aligned with business priorities.

  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver variety testing plans to develop and select varieties that meet business-defined product profiles.
  • Build collaborative relationships with internal partners including the breeding team, trait discovery team, and variety-specific agronomy crop technology team.
  • Serve as the central point for the variety qualification approval committee, driving final alignment on varieties that will be part of the portfolio.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD (with >5 years experience) or MSc + 10 years experience in an ag seed or chemical company, with trial experience in potato, crop trait valuation, strategic needs assessment, trait/variety portfolio management, or related fields.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Execute and manage trials supporting performance and quality testing programs, capturing environmental and phenotype data, and designing experiments to support robust decisions and breeding models.
  2. Collaborate with senior business leaders across commercial, supply chain, procurement, processing, R&D quality, and consumer insights to develop strategies and ensure a pipeline of relevant solutions.

This role requires strong leadership experience and understanding of strategy, brand management, sales, and market analysis. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are also essential, along with the ability to interact productively across all organizational levels.

Requirements:
  • PhD (with >5 years experience) or MSc + 10 years experience in an ag seed or chemical company.
  • Experience in executing and managing trials, building collaborative relationships, and serving as a central point for variety qualification approval committees.
  • Strong leadership experience, understanding of strategy, brand management, sales, and market analysis.
