Job Summary:
The World Health Organization is seeking a highly skilled Medical Officer to lead the immunization programmes at the global level. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical advice to countries to strengthen routine immunization systems and improve coverage and equity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support to countries to develop and implement comprehensive multi-year plans and annual EPI plans.
- Oversee the planning and implementation of measles/rubella control/elimination activities, including supplementary immunization activities and case-based laboratory surveillance.
- Coordinate the introduction of new vaccines, including developing applications to Gavi and conducting necessary training.
- Develop and implement polio transition plans and oversee laboratory-based surveillance of rotavirus gastroenteritis and invasive bacterial vaccine-preventable diseases.
- Serve as a technical advisor to the public on investigation and response to outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases.
- Supervise and guide other EPI field staff and monitor resource mobilization for EPI-related activities.
- Develop EPI biannual plans in coordination with government authorities.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in medicine, epidemiology, or public health with a specialization in immune or vaccine-related areas.
- At least 10 years of experience in immunization programmes and control of vaccine-preventable diseases at high managerial levels.
- Excellent knowledge of principles, practices, methodology, and techniques of immunization programmes.
- Excellent capacity in developing strategies and plans related to immunization programmes.
- Expert knowledge of English.
