Lead Inference Systems Architect

We are seeking an experienced architect to drive the design, optimization and scaling of our inference systems. As a key member of our team, you will build high-performance systems for optimized inference serving of well-known models, develop novel techniques for custom model deployment, and scale our platform to handle millions of users worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement distributed inference platforms for large language models.
  • Optimize runtime and infrastructure layers of the inference stack for best model performance.
  • Develop native cross-platform inference support across NVIDIA and AMD GPUs for various model architectures.
  • Contribute to open-source inference engines to enhance their performance on DigitalOcean cloud.
  • Create tooling and observability to monitor system health and auto-tune capabilities.
  • Build benchmarking frameworks to test model-serving performance and guide system and infrastructure tuning efforts.
  • Mentor engineers on inference systems, GPU infrastructure, and distributed inference best practices.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience building distributed systems with Kubernetes, gRPC, Go, and Python.
  • Experience with GPU programming using CUDA, ROCm, and experience with L3-L7 network protocols, block storage, object storage.
  • Proven track record defining and achieving performance KPIs (latency, throughput, cost).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with one or more inference engines (e.g., vLLM, SGLang, Modular).
  • Familiarity with distributed inference serving frameworks (e.g., llm-d, NVIDIA dynamo, Ray Serve).
  • Knowledge of distributed inference optimization techniques (e.g., tensor/data parallelism, KV cache optimizations, smart routing).
  • Familiarity with common LLM architectures and inference optimization techniques (e.g., continuous batching, quantization).
