Job Title:

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist

Summary:

This role involves performing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies, preparing patients for the process, setting necessary imaging parameters and displaying images.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Learns pulse programming to troubleshoot issues with unique pulse sequences.
  • Trains a large investigator population on new pulse sequences.
  • Collaborates with the MR physicist to educate investigators about new pulse sequences.
  • Prepares patients, positions them, sets up imaging parameters, performs computer processing and displays images.
  • Conducts quality control procedures on MRI scanner and related equipment.
  • Administers intravenous injections of MR contrast agents and monitors for adverse reactions.
  • Instructs patients and visitors in safe practices for MRI use.
  • Evaluates patient schedules for potential contraindications.
  • Communicates with radiologists for protocol clarification.
  • Maintains a neat work environment and adheres to departmental policies.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Demonstrated mental/visual ability to operate complex electronic equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of MR physics.
  • Ability to provide care to diverse age populations.
  • Effective communication in English.

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to magnetic fields; possible exposure to liquid/gaseous substances in case of system failure.
  • Mental/visual ability to operate complex equipment; ability to transfer patients and push tables from prep rooms to exam rooms.
