Agricultural Economist Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Agricultural Economist to lead our team in Lahore, Pakistan. The successful candidate will analyze and interpret complex data related to agricultural production, markets, policies, and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze and interpret large datasets from multiple sources, including surveys, field studies, and government reports.
  • Develop economic models to forecast trends in production, demand, and pricing of agricultural commodities.
  • Conduct research on the impact of government policies, environmental factors, and global market conditions on agricultural sectors.
  • Prepare detailed reports, papers, and presentations to communicate findings to stakeholders, including farmers, agribusiness leaders, policymakers, and investors.
  • Provide strategic advice to clients or internal teams on improving productivity, profitability, and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with researchers, agronomists, and industry partners on projects and studies.
  • Stay up-to-date on global agricultural trends, trade agreements, and emerging issues like climate change and food security.
  • Support grant proposals, policy development, or funding requests with data-backed insights.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, Agribusiness, or a related field (Ph.D. preferred for research-focused roles).
  • Proven experience in economic research, modeling, and data analysis related to agriculture or agribusiness.
  • Strong knowledge of agricultural markets, policies, and production systems.
  • Proficiency in statistical and econometric software (e.g., STATA, SAS, R, or SPSS).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Familiarity with sustainability and environmental issues in agriculture is an asset.
