Senior Database Administrator Job Description

This role is responsible for managing and optimizing our SQL Server and Postgres databases within a fast-paced cloud environment.

  • Database Management & Optimization:
    • We seek a skilled individual to administer and maintain SQL Server and Postgres databases for cloud-based applications.
    • The selected candidate will ensure data integrity, availability, and security across all databases.
    • Tuning and optimizing database performance through effective monitoring and troubleshooting is crucial for this role.
    • Leveraging cloud-native automation tools and scripts to optimize database management, ensuring efficiency and reducing manual intervention.
  • Collaboration with Development Teams:
    • A collaborative approach is required to work directly with development teams to support database design, query optimization, and data integration in application development.
    • The ideal candidate will provide technical guidance on database-related tasks, ensuring seamless integration with applications.
  • Routine Maintenance & Backups:
    • The role involves performing regular database backups, restores, and disaster recovery operations to ensure continuity.
    • Scheduling and implementing preventive maintenance tasks to keep databases secure and optimized.
  • Problem-Solving & Issue Resolution:
    • A strong analytical and problem-solving skillset is necessary to diagnose and resolve complex database performance issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
    • The selected candidate will provide hands-on support for database troubleshooting and resolution of incidents in a timely manner.
  • Database Upgrades & Patching:
    • Planning and executing database upgrades and patching to keep systems up to date.
    • Working with cross-functional teams to coordinate downtime and ensure smooth updates.
  • Collaboration with Customer Solutions Team:
    • Supporting the Customer Solutions team with database configurations and changes for new and existing cloud applications.
    • Assisting with infrastructure planning, scaling, and maintenance for databases in cloud environments.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Creating detailed documentation for database configurations, changes, and procedures.
    • Reporting on database health, performance metrics, and any incidents to both teams.
    Required Skills and Qualifications
    • A minimum of 7 years of experience in database administration, with hands-on expertise in SQL Server and Postgres.
    • Hands-on experience with cloud services such as AWS RDS, Azure SQL, and Google Cloud Spanner for deploying and managing databases in the cloud.
    • Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, PowerShell, Bash, or other automation tools used for database management, backups, and performance optimization.
    • Experience working with Docker for database management and creation.
    • Deep expertise in managing, optimizing, and troubleshooting SQL Server and Postgres databases.
    • Solid experience in database performance tuning, query optimization, and data migration.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach.
    • Ability to break down complex technical concepts and clearly communicate solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Availability to work in split shift timings.
    • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (Development, Solutions) to ensure seamless operations.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective reporting and documentation.
    • Commitment to providing exceptional support to internal teams and stakeholders.
