Chief Data Architect

We are seeking an experienced Full-Stack Developer to join our team. This role requires expertise in designing and implementing scalable backend systems, architecting efficient front-end solutions, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

This is a remote position that offers flexibility and autonomy. Our team works asynchronously, with daily standup calls to ensure seamless collaboration and productivity.

1. Design and implement crawlers/API-clients that aggregate complex graphical data into comprehensible descriptions of social networks.
2. Architect efficient and reusable backend-end systems driving complex web applications.
3. Collaborate with Product Designers, Product Managers, and Software Engineers to deliver compelling products.
4. Identify and resolve performance and scalability issues.
5. Plan and coordinate data modeling and feature releases.
6. Envision, implement, and validate UIs aggregating complex graphical data into comprehensible descriptions of social networks.
7. Implement features and user interfaces of Borg products like Hive.
8. Architect efficient and reusable front-end systems driving complex web applications.
9. Collaborate with Product Designers, Product Managers, and Software Engineers to deliver compelling user-facing products.
10. Identify and resolve performance and scalability issues.
11. Plan and coordinate data modeling and feature releases.
12. Mentor junior full-stack Engineers.

• 5+ years experience envisioning and implementing high-availability, high-throughput backend systems.
• 5+ years experience architecting and implementing complex user flows on web.
• JavaScript experience including concepts like asynchronous programming, closures, types.
• Python experience including concepts like asynchronous programming, meta-programming, types, and scientific Python.
• Deep expertise in at least one major web framework such as FastAPI, Flask, Django, aioHTTP, Pyramid, etc.
• Experience building scalable APIs and optimizing performance of complex SQL queries touching millions of data points. We use PostgreSQL.
• Experience with E2E testing e.g. Cypress.
• Demonstrated ability to take advantage of cloud-native technologies and techniques to build a robust, high-availability platform.
• Growth mindset, balancing long-term engineering objectives with immediate development needs.
• Highly collaborative with strong verbal and written communication skills.
• You enjoy writing documentation and understand its value.

• BS/MS/Ph.D. in Computer Science or related technical field.
• Interest in sociology, anthropology, evolutionary psychology, game theory, or related fields.
• Interest in design, user experience, or related fields.
• Interested in online cultures, sub-cultures, memes, etc.
• Power user of some social media platforms and/or member of online communities.
• 1+ years experience writing serverless applications on systems such as AWS Lambdas.

We offer a flexible and autonomous work environment, with daily standup calls and asynchronous work setup. You can work from our Berlin office in Mitte if you choose to do so.

We invest time crafting descriptions and questions for each role, making sure they serve as an excellent filter.

If we like your answers, we'll schedule the first interview. Typically, there are three interviews (+/-1) in total. For some roles, you may receive a take-home task taking about 2-3 hours to complete. After that, we'll ask you to work with us on a trial project for a week, paying you for this project. The idea is to experience working with our team, and we get a chance to experience having you as a colleague. Within that week, we'll either make you an offer or let you know it's not a fit.
