Job Opportunity: Expert Data Migration Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Migration Specialist to lead our end-to-end data migration practice, from scoping and tooling through execution and quality assurance. This role will drive revenue recognition and fortify customer trust by designing robust, repeatable frameworks to ingest messy legacy exports, transform them into clean domain models, and ensure zero-downtime migrations with forensic-level accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead & Mentor: Manage a team of 3–6 engineers and data analysts, hire top talent, coach team members, and set technical standards.
  • Architect Tooling: Build scalable Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) pipelines with automated mapping, validation, reconciliation, and rollback capabilities.
  • Drive the Roadmap: Collaborate with Operations, Sales, and Product to prioritize projects, set timelines, define service level agreements (SLAs), and ensure delivery.
  • Ensure Forensic Accuracy: Implement automated quality assurance (QA), manual checks, reconciliation queries, and artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted audits to achieve ≥99.9% data accuracy.
  • Standardize Playbooks: Develop templates, runbooks, and documentation to make migrations nearly push-button.
  • Mitigate Risk: Champion observability, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance, protected health information (PHI) encryption, and least-privilege access across Amazon Web Services (AWS) and tooling.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Customer Success, Finance, and Core Engineering on requirements, schema evolution, and revenue cutover.
  • Continuous Improvement: Monitor cycle time, defect rate, and hours per migration; iterate to improve efficiency and reliability.
Requirements:
  • 6+ years of experience in backend/data engineering, including 2+ years of leading teams.
  • Proven track record of delivering complex, large-scale data migrations or ETL in production Software as a Service (SaaS) environments.
  • Expertise in Python (Pandas, SQLAlchemy or Django Object-Relational Mapping (ORM)), Structured Query Language (SQL), PostgreSQL, and experience with AWS (Simple Storage Service (S3), Relational Database Service (RDS), Elastic Container Service (ECS)/Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS)).
  • Comfortable working with distributed systems, message queues/workers (e.g., Celery, Redis), and orchestration pipelines.
  • Strong skills in schema profiling, lock diagnosis, and batch load optimization.
  • Excellent communication and project planning skills, adept at stakeholder management and aligning Executives and Sales.
  • Passionate about tooling, automation, documentation, making future migrations faster and safer.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) migrations, Health Level Seven (HL7), Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR), or HIPAA.
  • Hands-on experience with Great Expectations, Datadog, OpenTelemetry or AI/LLM-based data quality assurance.
  • Experience in Django, Pydantic, FastAPI, particularly in a monorepo environment.
  • Thriving in fast-paced, greenfield environments, skilled at rapid iteration and wearing many hats.
  • Driving customer success, platform trust, and revenue acceleration.
  • Building a migrations team and framework from scratch.
  • Working with a modern tech stack: Python, Postgres, AI-powered data tooling, cloud-native architecture.
