Job Description

WaterAid seeks a skilled professional to fill the role of Regional Technical Adviser - Climate Resilient WASH. This position is responsible for ensuring the high technical quality of climate resilient WASH programmes in the region and working closely with country programmes, partners, and stakeholders to drive sustainable change.

The successful candidate will provide technical guidance, quality assurance, and support to country programmes on climate resilient WASH programming, system strengthening, and the sustainability of WASH services. They will also implement capacity building initiatives to enhance the competencies of staff, partners, and stakeholders to deliver sustainable and climate resilient WASH programming.

Additionally, the Regional Technical Adviser will build and strengthen strategic partnerships, the knowledge base, and thought leadership in WASH and climate resilient programming through networking, knowledge sharing, and advocacy. They will support country programmes to integrate and prioritise WASH Climate Resilient measures in key national policies, strategies, and planning frameworks such as NAPs and NDCs.

The ideal candidate will have extensive professional experience at a senior level in climate resilient, WASH-related programmes and policy advocacy for LMIC countries in rural, urban, and climate-affected contexts. They will demonstrate excellent and up-to-date knowledge of technologies, approaches, technical standards, and guidelines related to climate resilient and sustainable WASH relevant to South Asia and how to practically apply these to programming.

They will also have significant experience of working in a technical capacity at senior level in the South Asia region, preferably in at least one of the countries where WaterAid operates. The ability to travel regionally and internationally is essential.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Extensive, relevant professional experience at a senior level in climate resilient, WASH-related programmes and policy advocacy for LMIC countries in rural, urban, and climate-affected contexts.
  • Demonstrated experience in strengthening WASH systems and understanding of the WASH sector's interaction with other systems such as climate change, health, and urban planning.
  • Excellent and up-to-date knowledge of technologies, approaches, technical standards, and guidelines related to climate resilient and sustainable WASH relevant to South Asia and how to practically apply these to programming.
  • Significant experience of working in a technical capacity at senior level in the South Asia region, preferably in at least one of the countries where WaterAid operates.
