Expert Legal Advisor Position Available

We are seeking a skilled Legal Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for providing legal support and advice to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Job Responsibilities:

• The incumbent must follow up and correspond with principals, lawyers, surveyors, salvage contacts, other agents, customers regarding legal, claims, and UAC procedures.

• The incumbent must maintain data/statistics/reports related to legal cases, claims, and UAC and share such reports with the manager on a monthly basis.

• The incumbent must regularly update and upload details of uncleared shipments in the UAC application software, as per UAC procedures/guidelines.

• The incumbent should attend court hearings for matters pending in courts of law, as and when required.

• The incumbent should vet legal documents/contracts and provide legal advice on issues pertaining to shipping laws, customs laws, tax laws, local court procedures, competition laws, contract of carriage act, guarantees, and letters of indemnity, etc.

• The incumbent must provide administrative support to principals, P & I club, lawyers of the company for legal claims and UAC cases.

• The incumbent must read the UAC/Claims Procedure on MSC Together and keep him/herself up to date on revisions or changes published on MSC Together.

• The incumbent must periodically review workflow of their section and suggest improvements to his/her supervisor(s).

• The incumbent should propose solutions in respect of customer complaints to their Manager to remove bottlenecks and improve customer-centricity.

• The incumbent must prepare summaries of legal cases for Legal Manager to assist with filing of/defending legal cases in the courts of law.

• The incumbent must ensure stringent follow-up on recovery process against liable party by sending timely recovery notices and keep the management and relevant department(s) up to date so that they can pursue within their own jurisdiction with their respective clients.

• The incumbent must update the UAC file in 'Themis Software' once containers have lapsed the stipulated number of days. Themis guide to be followed for ensuring proper updates of cases.

• The incumbent must hold regular UAC meetings with relevant department(s) to discuss the status on UAC boxes (import) and chalk out a suitable line of action for way forward.

• The incumbent is also a focal point for forwarding shipper/consignee blacklisting requests in TMS at the discretion of GVA and local management.

• The incumbent is responsible to organize, in coordination with the logistic and/or operations departments, the handling of incidents and, if needed, to give appropriate instructions in respect of any required extra-handling or survey operations.

• The incumbent must actively participate in training peers in their area of functions to broaden cross-functionality as well as create backups.

• The incumbent must regularly screen import bookings entered by POL in the OV Pre-screening tool developed by Geneva to ensure that the risk of the shipment being abandoned is mitigated.

• The incumbent must conduct training sessions for local staff on the MSC Business Code of Conduct and other related policies to ensure that the local staff is trained and has understood the importance of abiding by all the policies and its consequences thereof.

• Assist the Manager for preparation of presentations for local as well as meetings with principals.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in the shipping industry is preferred.

• Knowledge of relevant local laws, international treaties, Contract of Carriage, etc.

• Proficient in drafting legal documents, attention to detail when vetting official legal documents, proficient in using computer software such as Microsoft office, fluent in speaking English, Urdu.

• Confident in communicating with internal departments, overseas agents, principal offices, and customers, good presentation skills, competent to represent the company before appropriate Courts of Law.

• Previous experience of working in a law firm/corporate institution.
