Our team is seeking a Senior Apollo GraphQL Consultant to help evolve and streamline our federated GraphQL architecture.

We are in the process of migrating from a legacy monolith to a more modular, service-oriented architecture. This role will focus on resolving key architectural and integration challenges including schema composition, authorization, entity ownership, and technical debt mitigation.

  • This includes leading design and implementation efforts around Apollo Federation and GraphQL schema composition.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to streamline integration of subgraphs written in JS, TS, and C#.
  • Reviewing and refactoring existing GraphQL services to align with best practices and scalable federation patterns.
  • Defining and enforcing ownership models for entities and fields across subgraphs.
  • Establishing and improving authorization and access control strategies at the gateway and subgraph level.
  • Identifying, assessing, and reducing technical debt related to GraphQL federation and service communication.
Key Responsibilities
  • Mentor other engineers and promote best practices in GraphQL, Apollo Server, and distributed architecture.
  • Fostering a collaborative environment that encourages knowledge sharing and skill development.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of backend development experience with strong expertise in Apollo GraphQL.
  • Deep understanding of Apollo Federation, gateway setup, and schema stitching.
  • Hands-on experience with GraphQL implementations in JavaScript, TypeScript, and ideally C#.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and optimize schema composition, entity resolution, and performance.
  • Experience working in microservices or modular monolith environments.
  • Solid understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, and versioning in GraphQL environments.
