Environmental Policy Analyst

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Environmental Policy Analyst to support the development of national biodiversity finance plans in Pakistan.

The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in Public Policy or Economic Policy with an Environment/Biodiversity/Economic focus or an Environmental/Biodiversity with a Public Policy focus.

About the Role:
  • This position requires leading the production of the Policy and Institutional Review (PIR) in support of the Project Manager—Biodiversity Conservation.
  • You will provide initial inputs to start the development of the Biodiversity Finance Plan following the guidance provided by the latest version of the BIOFIN Workbook.
  • The successful candidate will assess and describe significant biodiversity-related policies and legal frameworks and identify existing finance solutions relevant to biodiversity finance.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop an inventory of existing Biodiversity Financing Mechanisms for Pakistan in support of MOCC&EC and the provincial government.
  • Review existing economic valuation studies relevant to the BIOFIN process and review the legal framework relevant to the BIOFIN process and other sources relevant to BD finance.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An advanced degree in Public Policy or Economic Policy with an Environment/Biodiversity/Economic focus or an Environmental/Biodiversity with a Public Policy focus.
  • Or a first-level university degree in above mentioned areas in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in Environmental Policy and biodiversity-related projects.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex information and communicate findings effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of biodiversity finance, policy analysis and institutional review, and experience in developing and implementing national biodiversity finance plans.
  • Familiarity with the environmental policy and legal framework and environmental financial mechanisms.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with government officials, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders.
