Electrical Engineer Role

The Electrical Engineer I provides technical oversight in the proposal and design phases of solar projects. This involves all aspects of a solar system, including racking, equipment foundations, fencing, and site construction support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop Solar PV basis of design, including module selection, string sizing, ground coverage ratio, inverter selection, inverter power factor requirements, inverter loading ratio, and cable sizing.
  • Design solar PV systems, including 1-line diagrams and array layouts.
  • Apply structural, mechanical, and electrical design skills to generate accurate, detailed construction drawings and documents using AutoCAD.
  • Collaborate with project development and construction teams to design, develop, and construct solar PV systems.
  • Apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices to tasks, particularly when analyzing current technical tools and evaluating tools.
  • Perform energy simulation analysis using PVsyst to acquire new projects.
  • Facilitate design and development of solar PV systems by collaborating with suppliers and 3rd-party personnel.
  • Assist in creating 30% and IFC PVsyst reports.
  • Emphasize a culture of continuous improvement and problem solving.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 2+ years of experience in solar PV system design.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and related Autodesk software, as well as HelioScope.
  • Proficiency in solar performance modeling software.
  • Demonstrated electrical, structural, and mechanical design skills, and the ability to generate accurate, highly detailed construction drawings.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
  • Licensed P.E. in the state of MN.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to thrive in a small, flexible, and dynamic work environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal skills, including the ability to communicate positively with project managers, other engineering/design team members, management, and installation contractors to foster superior coordination.

This is a full-time position that may require longer hours and frequent weekend work. Local travel during the business day is expected, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be necessary.
