Job Description

We are seeking a qualified Lecturer to join our team in the field of Optometry/Orthoptics. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching assigned courses, fostering a high-quality learning environment, and contributing to curriculum planning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meet annual targets set by the Head of Department to ensure optimal student outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain a stimulating teaching and learning environment that aligns with the institution's goals.
  • Deliver lectures, tutorials, and practical classes according to faculty workload policy, promoting academic excellence and student engagement.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development to enhance teaching skills and contribute to curriculum design.
  • Implement innovative teaching methods and facilitate experiential learning opportunities to foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Evaluate and improve teaching content and methods to ensure alignment with institutional standards.
  • Supervise student projects, field trips, and placements, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Assess and provide constructive feedback on student work and examinations, maintaining accurate records of academic performance.
  • Mentor students through the Riphah Mentoring Program, guiding 15-20 participants.
  • Update data in the Virtual Learning Environment and other necessary software systems.
  • Integrate Islamic and ethical values into teaching practices and engage in departmental and institutional committee activities as required.
  • Evaluate and respond to issues related to student needs and subordinates, ensuring a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitor student attendance in classes, labs, and practicals, addressing any concerns or issues promptly.
  • Contribute to publications and disseminate research findings through appropriate channels, applying research to practical applications.
  • Lead independent research projects, serving as principal investigator and project leader, and assume line management responsibilities as required.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • A Ph.D. in Optometry or a related field;
  • Proven teaching experience in optometry or orthoptics, preferably at a university level;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to develop and deliver engaging teaching materials and assessments;
  • Experience with curriculum design and implementation;
  • Knowledge of virtual learning environments and educational technology;
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team;
  • Familiarity with mentoring and coaching principles and practices.
