The role of a Sexual and Reproductive Health Service Provider is a critical one, requiring strong clinical skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients.

Job Summary

This position will work under the supervision of a medical officer as part of the clinical services provision team, providing sexual and reproductive health services to women and families.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Provide outpatient consultation services for sexual and reproductive health at the service delivery point, working under the direction and supervision of a medical officer.
  • Take patient histories, conduct examinations, identify risk factors, and perform basic tests based on global standards for clinical care during antenatal and postnatal periods.
  • Prescribe treatment or refer patients for gynecological conditions under the supervision of a medical officer.
  • Conduct nutritional assessments of women and children and refer malnourished individuals to partner organizations for further treatment and support.
  • Manage baby deliveries under the supervision of a qualified lady doctor when well-equipped facilities are available.
  • Assist in neonatal resuscitation activities when BEmONC and CEmONC services are provided at the facility, under the supervision of a qualified medical doctor.
  • Provide education and counseling on sexual and reproductive health to women, either individually or in groups, focusing on family planning, danger signs during pregnancy, antenatal and postnatal care, exclusive breastfeeding, skilled deliveries, balanced diets, and vaccination.
  • Ensure that women receive tetanus toxoid vaccinations and children receive vaccinations through appropriate referrals to relevant departments.
  • Maintain accurate records of antenatal and postnatal registers, family planning registers, outpatient department registers, and any Maternal and Child Health Information Systems tools related to the maternal and child health unit.
  • FOLLOW universal precautions for infection prevention and control during clinical care and promote such practices.
  • Timely refer complicated cases encountered at the point of care based on international SRH clinical standards.
  • Offer CMR/IPV services at the service delivery point under the supervision of a lady doctor, provided necessary training is received and required PEP kits and supplies are available.
  • Submit weekly reports of activities and patients based on established processes and protocols.
  • Participate in review and planning meetings as part of the health team.
  • Coordinate with other team members of the facility and relevant offices related to service provision.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • A qualified and registered Lady Health Visitor (LHV) or Community Midwife from a Government recognized Nursing Institute with a valid license to practice.
  • Previous experience in a similar capacity is an advantage, especially with NGOs.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly on sensitive reproductive health topics, and generally in providing RH education.
  • The ability to communicate in local languages is preferred.
