Project Director Role

The Project Director is responsible for ensuring the timely and quality implementation of all projects carried out by the organization or its field partners. This position requires managing a team of professionals, including providing ongoing guidance and support to this team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Human Resource Management:
    • Supervise and direct project staff, monitoring workloads and work planning.
    • Provide ongoing guidance and support to project staff, including the use of best practices for project development and implementation.
    • Ensure proper transfer of knowledge at all staff levels.
    • Monitor staff performance, development, training, and conduct annual team performance appraisals.
  • Ongoing Project Management:
    • Participate in regular management meetings.
    • Create and execute project work plans, revising as necessary to meet changing needs and requirements.
    • Coordinate and approve project analysis with project officers and the programme team.
    • Organize visits of foreign staff, donor representatives, regional partners, etc.
    • Provide feedback to partners and search for consultants able to provide guidance and assistance if needed.
  • Overall Project Quality (Monitoring and Evaluation):
    • Take lead responsibility for ensuring that project monitoring and evaluation systems are efficient, effective, and responsive to stakeholder needs.
    • Develop indicators and measurement systems of outputs, outcomes, and impact of all projects and programmes monitored by the office.
    • Review report elements prepared by project officers before passing them to the Reporting Manager.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education: Degree in Social Sciences or other relevant discipline.
  • Experience: 5-10 years in field development work with NGOs (preferably in Asia), and a minimum of 3 years as the Project Director or equivalent.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Demonstrated success in implementing and monitoring/evaluation of projects.
    • Knowledge of contracting and negotiating.
    • Analytical and organizational skills.
    • Solid experience in budget oversight.
    • Strong staff management interpersonal and team leading skills.

Personal Skills:

  • High level of integrity.
  • Results orientation.
  • Independent and self-motivated.
  • Fair, ethical, and principled.

This role requires strong leadership and management skills, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a similar role, preferably in Asia.
