About the Role

The Metadata team is building a scalable metadata system for efficient querying across petabyte-scale data. They develop distributed and multi-layered caches, transaction frameworks, declarative entity management, time travel, and other core services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Use software engineering and analytical skills to solve complex business problems at scale.
  • Create architecture and design, influence product roadmaps, and own new projects.
  • Design, develop, and support a highly-parallel and fault-tolerant database system, including a decentralized caching system for terabytes of metadata with a growing request rate.
  • Implement core foundational features like transactions, DDL/DML logs, metadata APIs, and advanced features built on top of metadata, such as declarative entity management and integrations for developer toolchains.
  • Analyze performance and scalability bottlenecks in the system and solve them.
  • Ensure operational readiness of services and meet commitments to customers regarding availability and performance.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 14 years of industry experience designing, building, and supporting large-scale systems in production.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
  • Sharp original thinking to make informed decisions and guide teams.
  • Systems programming skills, including multi-threading, concurrency, caching, etc., with fluency in Java or similar procedural object-oriented languages preferred.
  • A track record of identifying and implementing creative solutions to complex problems.
  • Knowledge of database internals is beneficial.
  • The ability to work effectively across engineering teams in multiple locations.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science; Master's or PhD preferred.
