R&D Scientist – Biodegradable Polymers

The R&D Scientist – Biodegradable Polymers will be responsible for researching, developing, testing, and optimising biodegradable and compo-stable polymer materials. The role involves identifying suitable bio-based raw materials, improving material performance, ensuring compliance with sustainability standards, and supporting scale-up for commercial production. The individual must have strong polymer chemistry knowledge, hands-on laboratory experience, and a passion for sustainable materials innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

Research and develop biodegradable polymer formulations using starch-based, PLA, PHA, PBAT, cellulose, or other bio-based materials.

Conduct laboratory experiments, chemical modifications, compounding trials, and property evaluations.

Optimise material performance including tensile strength, flexibility, thermal stability, and degradation rate.

Prepare and test prototype films, granules, moulded samples, and end-use product formats.

Perform bio degradation and compo-stability testing under controlled conditions.

Maintain accurate lab notebooks, formulation sheets, test results, and technical reports.

Work closely with manufacturing and process engineers to scale-up material from lab to pilot and full production.

Ensure all developed materials comply with international environmental and compostability standards (e.g., ASTM D6400, EN

Stay updated with emerging technologies, scientific publications, and global trends in bioplastics.

Support customer and internal teams with technical explanations and application guidance when required.

Qualifications & Skills:

Bachelor's / Master's / PhD in Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or related field.

Experience
:

1–5+ years of hands-on experience in polymer research, compounding, plastics formulation, or biodegradable materials development (experience level can be adjusted as per your requirement).

Technical Skills:

Knowledge of polymer synthesis, compounding, rheology, and polymer characterisation.

Familiarity with extrusion, film blowing, injection moulding, or material processing equipment.

Ability to conduct material testing (FTIR, DSC, TGA, MFI, tensile testing, etc.).

Understanding of bio degradation, compo-stability, and environmental standards.

Soft Skills:

Strong analytical thinking, experimental planning, and problem-solving skills.

Clear technical documentation and communication abilities.

Ability to collaborate within cross-functional teams
