About the Role

We're assembling a generational engineering team. The first 20 engineers at Metal will define the standards of technical excellence and team culture for decades to come.

This role is ideal for someone who is intellectually curious, thrives in high-performance environments, and has the drive to set new standards in frontend engineering. We're not just hiring a developer — we're hiring a builder, a strategist, and a future leader.

What You'll Do

  • Develop advanced frontend systems that power a seamless fundraising experience for startup teams
    Drive key technical decisions that balance business goals, product needs, and long-term scalability

  • Lead architecture and design discussions across the frontend domain

  • Collaborate closely with founders, design, and backend teams to ship features that matter

  • Mentor and uplift other engineers while helping shape our team culture and engineering processes

  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve product, architecture, and team velocity

  • Help define what excellence looks like in the engineering function

What We're Looking For

Non-Negotiable Qualities

  • Exceptional Technical Ability: You've led the build of complex frontend systems at scale and have deep expertise in TypeScript, (or similar).

  • Professionalism & Drive: You show up on time, own outcomes, communicate proactively, and bring a sense of urgency to your work.

  • Intellectual Curiosity & Learning Capacity: You take initiative to understand the "why," ask hard questions, and build strong product intuition over time.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in frontend engineering

  • Proven ability to lead projects and make architectural decisions

  • Mastery of modern frontend frameworks and patterns (React, , TypeScript)

  • Experience building design systems or reusable component libraries

  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset

  • Experience balancing speed, scope, and tech debt in a startup or fast-moving environment

Preferred

  • Experience building software for other developers (internal tools, SDKs, platforms)

  • A strong sense of design and user experience

  • Familiarity with full-stack environments and backend integration

  • Background in high-growth startups or product-led companies
