About the Role

We're hiring a Lead Frontend Engineer to drive the next phase of Metal's product development. You'll not only write production-grade code but also shape technical vision, grow the team, and act as a thought partner to product and design.

You'll help define what excellence looks like in our engineering culture — owning major initiatives from ideation through execution.

This is a high-impact, high-autonomy role for someone who combines deep technical expertise with exceptional leadership, product sense, and an obsession with quality.

What You'll Do

  • Own the architecture and evolution of Metal's frontend platform

  • Lead and scale a high-performance frontend team — setting goals, providing mentorship, and building systems that enable team velocity

  • Make foundational decisions about frameworks, tooling, and long-term technical direction

  • Collaborate closely with product and design to deliver high-leverage, user-facing experiences

  • Shape engineering processes, promote quality, and ensure excellence in delivery
    Set and uphold technical standards across the stack — code quality, testing, and performance

  • Drive cross-functional initiatives across design systems, platform architecture, and internal tooling

What We're Looking For

Non-Negotiable Qualities

  • Exceptional Technical Ability: You've led the build of complex frontend systems at scale and have deep expertise in TypeScript, (or similar).

  • Professionalism & Drive: You show up on time, own outcomes, communicate proactively, and bring a sense of urgency to your work.

  • Intellectual Curiosity & Learning Capacity: You take initiative to understand the "why," ask hard questions, and build strong product intuition over time.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7+ years of frontend engineering experience, with at least 2+ years in a technical leadership role

  • Deep expertise in React, , and TypeScript (or equivalent frameworks)

  • Proven ability to lead architectural design and scale systems over time

  • Experience managing or mentoring other engineers

  • Excellent communication and the ability to influence across teams and disciplines

  • Startup experience or working in fast-moving product teams

Preferred

  • Experience building internal developer platforms or design systems

  • Passion for developer experience, performance, and accessibility

  • Track record of recruiting, hiring, or onboarding engineers

  • Full-stack awareness and comfort collaborating with backend/platform teams
