Medical Billing Coordinator
manages the full medical billing cycle to ensure accurate and timely reimbursement for healthcare services. This role involves preparing and submitting claims, tracking payments, resolving billing discrepancies, and maintaining accounts receivable. The position requires close collaboration with clinical, administrative, and insurance teams to maintain financial accuracy, compliance, and patient satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims by verifying patient and service information.
  • Ensure correct ICD/CPT/HCPCS coding and coordinate with coding teams or providers.
  • Validate prior authorizations and manage CMS-1500 forms.
  • Address patient billing inquiries professionally and empathetically.
  • Explain charges, EOBs, and insurance denials in a clear, patient-friendly manner.
  • Resolve billing discrepancies and support financial transparency.
  • Monitor claim statuses and follow up on outstanding or unpaid claims.
  • Resolve Coordination of Benefits (COB) issues to reduce aging balances.
  • Maintain accurate A/R records and support audit-ready documentation.
  • Upload and reconcile Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and Electronic Remittance Advices (ERAs) in the PMS.
  • Manage overpayments, underpayments, and payment adjustments.
  • Review claim denials, identify causes, and submit corrections or appeals.
  • Track appeal outcomes to ensure timely reimbursement recovery.
  • Accurately post insurance and patient payments, apply adjustments, and manage duplicate payments.
  • Maintain organized, compliant records following HIPAA, payer, and internal standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in
    medical billing/revenue cycle management, preferably in home health or hospice.
  • Familiarity with home health EHR/billing systems (e.g., Kinnser, Axxess, or HCHB) - preferred, not mandatory
  • Strong understanding of
    Medicare/Medicaid billing, PDGM, OASIS, CPT/ICD-10 coding.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with high attention to detail.
