Marine Engineer

The Marine Engineer is a key member of the vessel's technical team, responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of all engineering systems and machinery. This includes the main propulsion plant, auxiliary engines, electrical systems, cargo handling equipment, and all associated systems. The role requires a high level of technical expertise, a strong commitment to safety procedures, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic, multicultural environment.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Duties:

*  Stands watch in the engine room as the Duty Engineer, monitoring the performance of all machinery, including main engine,  generators, boilers, and auxiliary systems.

*  Operates, monitors, and controls engineering systems from the Engine Control Room (ECR).

*  Maintains accurate logs and records of machinery performance, fuel and lubricant consumption, and all engine room activities.

*  Manages the transfer and storage of fuel (bunkering), lubricants, and freshwater.

Maintenance & Repair:

*  Performs planned maintenance system (PMS) tasks on a scheduled basis, including preventive and corrective maintenance.

*  Conducts routine inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs of:

*  Main propulsion engine and associated systems.

*  Auxiliary diesel engines (generators).

*  Electrical generation and distribution systems.

*  Pumping and piping systems (fuel, lube oil, ballast, cooling water).

*  Hydraulic systems for deck machinery (cranes, hatches).

*  Refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

*  Sewage treatment plant and incinerator.

*  Firefighting and emergency systems.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Experience & Skills:

*  10 years of experience as an Engineer Officer on commercial vessels, preferably on container ships.

*  Proven hands-on experience in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of slow-speed two-stroke and medium-speed four-stroke diesel engines.

*  Strong knowledge of electrical systems, automation, and control systems.

*  Proficiency in using computerized maintenance systems (PMS).

*  Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills under pressure.

*  Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.

*  Fluency in English (written and spoken).

Working Conditions:

*  Living and working onboard a vessel for extended periods in a confined environment.

*  Exposure to machinery noise, vibrations, and occasional heavy weather conditions.

*  Must be physically fit to perform duties, including working in confined spaces and handling heavy equipment.
