Transformation has resulted in changes in skills requirements, roles, and numbers of roles required in the new operating model. Project Manager English and School Systems

The Role:

This role supports the design, delivery, and closure of English and School Systems projects in Pakistan. The Project Manager is responsible for coordinating project activities, managing internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring project delivery is compliant with British Council and donor standards. The role supports large-scale education and English programmes that aim to improve learning outcomes, enhance teacher development, and strengthen public education systems.

Accountabilities:

Project Planning & Implementation

  • Support the planning, delivery, and closure of English and School Systems projects in line with agreed objectives and corporate policies.
  • Develop and manage detailed activity plans, timelines, and budgets in coordination with the Senior Academic Manager or Programme Lead.
  • Lead the execution of project components, events, training activities, and dissemination activities, ensuring outputs are met on time and within scope.
    Ensure alignment of project implementation with British Council standards, donor expectations, and educational impact goals.

Stakeholder and Partner Coordination

  • Liaise with provincial and national partners, including education departments, training institutions, CSOs, and donor organisations to coordinate delivery.
  • Support stakeholder engagement strategies to build trust and ensure smooth implementation at field and system levels.
    Represent the British Council at project events, coordination meetings, and stakeholder briefings as needed.

Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate project records, including activity reports, meeting notes, and deliverable trackers.
  • Contribute to project monitoring by supporting data collection, verification, and basic analysis to inform reporting and learning.
    Prepare high-quality reports, presentations, policy briefs, and case studies to communicate progress and impact to internal and external stakeholders.

Risk, Finance, and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with British Council systems including safeguarding, EDI, procurement, and risk management procedures.
  • Monitor project budgets and financial forecasts in coordination with the project delivery team and finance partners.
    Proactively identify and report risks or delivery challenges, and support resolution and mitigation.

Requirements of the role:

Minimum/Essential:

  • Experience of managing multi country or large in-country programmes that have met project closure and audit standards.
  • Knowledge/ and or experience of working with at least two types of funding sources within a structured compliance regime.
  • Experience of client management, partner management and/or contract management.
  • Experience of managing a wide range of stakeholders.
  • More than 3 years' experience managing projects or managing aspects of programmes.
  • Experience in spotting risk in a project or programme and putting together successful risk mitigation with SRO
  • Understanding of MEL principles
  • Experience of managing teams.
    Experience of conducting lessons learned reviews/After action reviews to inform future programme design and management.

Desirable

  • More than 5 years' experience managing projects/programmes
  • Experience of managing dispersed teams.

Qualification : Graduation

Foundation level Project Management qualification (in-house training or evidence of CPD in this area could be considered)
