Job Title:
Operational Consultant (DevOps & Ruby on Rails Specialist)

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Operational Consultant to analyze and enhance our software development lifecycle. The ideal candidate will be an expert in Ruby on Rails upgrades, infrastructure analysis, and workflow automation. You will act as a key advisor, driving efficiency, stability, and scalability across our engineering operations and documenting processes on GitHub.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze
    current operational workflows to identify and eliminate bottlenecks.
  • Lead
    and execute full Ruby on Rails version upgrades ("bumping Rails"), managing everything from gem updates to code refactoring and ensuring application stability.
  • Evaluate
    infrastructure deployments and provide recommendations for improving scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Design
    and implement automated workflows for the software development lifecycle, including CI/CD pipelines.
  • Create
    and maintain clear, comprehensive release documentation, runbooks, and technical diagrams using GitHub.
  • Consult
    with development teams to promote best practices in coding, deployment, and infrastructure management.
  • Familiar
    in working in environments that present challenging problems, where you will focus on creative thinking and automation to deliver innovative solutions.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Required:
  • Proven experience upgrading complex Ruby on Rails applications.
  • Strong proficiency with infrastructure automation tools (e.g., Terraform).
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions and CircleCI.
  • Expertise in analyzing and optimizing cloud infrastructure (in AWS).
  • Demonstrated ability in scripting for automation (e.g., Ruby, Rails, Bash).
  • Proficient in using Git and GitHub for version control and documentation.
  • Preferred:
  • Previous experience in a consulting or advisory role.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Datadog)
