We are a growing bookkeeping firm serving small and mid-sized businesses. We're expanding our e-commerce practice and seeking a detail-oriented accounting professional who thrives at the intersection of technology and financial analysis.

The Role

You'll manage the full accounting cycle for our e-commerce clients, with a heavy emphasis on inventory reconciliation, payment processor integrations, and financial analysis. This role requires someone who can navigate the complexities of online retail accounting—from tracking cost of goods sold across multiple SKUs to reconciling Shopify payouts against bank deposits and ensuring every transaction ties out cleanly.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day bookkeeping for e-commerce clients in QuickBooks Online, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance.

  • Reconcile Shopify sales, refunds, fees, and payouts to bank statements, resolving discrepancies and ensuring accurate revenue recognition.

  • Track and reconcile inventory costs by matching vendor bills to purchase orders and inventory receipts, maintaining accurate COGS calculations.

  • Build and maintain Excel models for inventory valuation, margin analysis, sales trends, and cash flow forecasting. Analyze payment processor statements (Shopify Payments, PayPal, Stripe) and reconcile to both the sales platform and bank accounts.

  • Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules for client review. Identify process improvements and help implement automation where possible. Communicate directly with clients to gather information, answer questions, and explain financial results.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of accounting experience, with at least 1 year focused on e-commerce or retail businesses.

  • Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online, including inventory tracking, bank feeds, and reporting.

  • Advanced Excel skills—you should be comfortable with VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH, pivot tables, conditional formatting, data validation, and building dynamic financial models from scratch. Hands-on experience reconciling Shopify (or similar platforms like Amazon, WooCommerce) to accounting records.

  • Solid understanding of inventory costing methods (FIFO, average cost) and how purchase bills flow through to COGS.

  • Familiarity with payment processor fee structures and payout timing. Strong attention to detail and ability to research and resolve reconciliation variances independently. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with inventory management tools or apps that integrate with Shopify and QBO. Familiarity with A2X, Synder, or similar e-commerce accounting connectors. Background in cost accounting or financial analysis. Degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
