Job Summary:
The Restaurant Front Desk Receptionist is responsible for greeting and seating guests, managing reservations, answering inquiries, and ensuring that guests have an enjoyable dining experience from the moment they enter the restaurant. This role requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to manage a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greeting and Seating Guests:
- Welcome guests as they enter the restaurant and guide them to their assigned table.
- Ensure guests feel comfortable and attend to their initial needs.
- Maintain a positive, friendly attitude at all times.
- Managing Reservations:
- Take, confirm, and manage reservations via phone, email, or online platforms.
- Keep track of the reservation book and ensure accurate seating arrangements.
- Assist in managing waitlists, providing accurate wait times, and informing guests when their table is ready.
- Answering Phones and Inquiries:
- Answer incoming calls promptly and professionally.
- Provide information about the restaurant, including the menu, hours of operation, and special events.
- Handle reservation requests, take messages, and redirect calls to appropriate departments.
- Handling Customer Requests and Concerns:
- Address guest inquiries or concerns with patience, empathy, and professionalism.
- Ensure guest satisfaction by ensuring their requests are met or directed to the appropriate team member.
- Communicate with the restaurant team to ensure smooth coordination of services.
- Maintaining the Front Desk Area:
- Keep the front desk area neat, organized, and welcoming at all times.
- Ensure menus, promotional materials, and other items at the front desk are tidy and up to date.
- Coordinating with the Restaurant Team:
- Collaborate with waitstaff, kitchen, and management to ensure timely seating and efficient service.
- Communicate seating preferences, special requests, and dietary restrictions to relevant team members.
- Managing the Waitlist:
- Keep track of guests waiting for tables, provide accurate wait times, and manage guest expectations.
- Use the restaurant's seating system to manage and organize the flow of guests.
- Handling Payments (if applicable):
- In some restaurants, you may be responsible for processing payments or handling cash for guest checkouts.
- Ensure that checks are processed accurately and efficiently.
Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (additional education or certification in hospitality is a plus).
- Previous experience in a receptionist or customer service role, preferably in a restaurant or hospitality setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with guests in a friendly and professional manner.
- Ability to remain calm and efficient in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in using reservation and POS (point of sale) systems.
- Ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- This position is typically performed in a restaurant setting, working at the front desk or reception area.
- The work environment can be fast-paced, especially during peak dining times.
- Standing for long periods may be required, and the role may involve occasional light lifting (e.g., organizing menus, carrying small items).
