The role

We are seeking an experienced Tunnel Design Expert for one of our hydropower projects based in KPK Province, Pakistan. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the design and construction supervision of tunnels particularly for dams and hydropower projects.

• Review/ undertake detailed design & make necessary changes planning, and execution of tunnel structures as part of the hydropower project Supervise the execution of the tunnel activities undertaken by contractor, lead and guide the team of local engineers for effective supervision of the works.
• Recommend/Approve Scope of work for additional investigations for underground works i.e. tunnels, shafts etc.
• Review of the geology and geotechnical information relating to tunnels and power intake structure
• Approve drilling programme regarding underground investigation requirements.
• Review of Design and layouts of all of the tunnelling and related works for the project
• Review, suggest and monitor safety measures for staff, materials and works
• Prepare technical reports, if necessary, relating to tunnel design or execution of the tunnel works
• Checking of the diversion and power intake drawings prepared by the CAD Operators
• Input to the Site Design Group for the assessment of required design updating
• Preparation of FEA model using actual field data
• Perform technical assessments and analyses related to tunnel construction and stability.
• Oversee quality assurance and ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.
• Monitor & report project progress relating to tunnels and suggest measures to eliminate risks during construction.
• Provide technical support and guidance during the construction phase to address challenges.

With a track record of achievement in a related role, you will have gained your experience in a consultancy environment and have a passion for building trusted relationships to drive positive change.

Suitable applicants will have/be:

• Master's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent in related discipline from an Internationally recognized institution or HEC/PEC.
• Minimum of 20 years of professional experience.
• Should have at least 15 years of expertise in a relevant field.
• Minimum of 10 years of specialized experience in the design and construction of tunnels for dams and hydropower projects.
• Strong knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles and tunneling methods.
• Excellent communication skills (written & verbal)
