About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced Senior Database Administrator to manage and oversee our organization's database systems, ensuring their security, performance, and availability.

Job Description:

  • Manage and oversee the organization's database systems, ensuring their security, performance, and availability.
  • Design, implement, and maintain database architectures that support the needs of the business and applications.
  • Optimize and tune database performance to ensure efficient and reliable data processing.
  • Plan and implement database backup and recovery strategies to safeguard critical data.
  • Monitor database health and proactively identify and resolve issues to minimize downtime and data loss.
  • Implement and enforce database security measures to protect sensitive information from unauthorized access and breaches.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand database requirements for new applications and projects.
  • Conduct database capacity planning to ensure scalability and accommodate future data growth.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for database systems, including configurations and standard operating procedures.
  • Lead and mentor junior database administrators, providing technical guidance and support.
  • Stay updated with the latest database technologies, trends, and best practices.
  • Assist in evaluating and selecting database management tools and software.
  • Participate in database schema design and data modeling efforts for new projects.
  • Collaborate with developers to optimize database queries and enhance application performance.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing to ensure business continuity.
  • Coordinate with vendors for database-related support and issue resolution.
  • Perform database migrations and upgrades, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruptions.
  • Ensure compliance with database-related regulatory requirements and industry standards.

What are we looking for?

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience: At least 7+ years of professional experience as a Database Administrator with a strong focus on MySQL.
  • Technical Expertise:
  • Proficiency in designing, implementing, and maintaining MySQL database architectures.
  • Advanced skills in performance tuning, query optimization, and database health monitoring.
  • Hands-on experience with MySQL replication, clustering, and high-availability solutions.
  • Expertise in database backup, recovery strategies, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Strong understanding of database security, including user management, encryption, and breach prevention.
  • Competence in schema design, normalization, and data modeling principles.
  • Additional Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions like AWS RDS, Azure Database, or Google Cloud SQL.
  • Basic scripting skills (Python, Shell scripting) for automation.
  • Experience with database migrations and version upgrades.
  • Understanding of DevOps tools and practices related to database management.
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication skills, and the capability to mentor junior team members.

Working Hours and Schedule:

  • 40 plus hours per week - Must be willing to work overlapping hours as needed.
