The Interpreter will work under the supervision of Case Managers/Community Protection Officer. The person will work closely with persons of concern, namely asylum-seekers and refugees. Occasionally, the candidate will also interact with senior management and other project staff.

Roles and Responsibilities
  1. Perform oral interpretation during interviews conducted for protection activities.
  2. Interpret oral conversations, discussions, and counselling sessions with refugees and asylum-seekers, including psycho-social counselling and other sessions with vulnerable and/or traumatized individuals.
  3. Interpret at public meetings or events, as required.
  4. Translate handwritten reports, applications, certificates, documents, newspapers, magazines, etc.
  5. Support the unit with collecting and maintaining records on country of origin information.
  6. Assist with contacting refugees via telephone at the request of protection caseworkers.
  7. Help complete referral forms and other documents, including updating information in the KOBO Toolbox database.
  8. Travel with CBP staff on community visits for interpretation and assistance as needed.
  9. Provide support to CBP teams and take minutes/notes.
  10. Perform clerical duties such as scanning, copying, retyping translations, and interview transcripts.
  11. Assist with interpretation and translation of communication and visibility materials.
  12. Perform other duties as required, including support to humanitarian workers.
  13. Perform additional tasks assigned by the supervisor.
