The newly established Centre of Oncological Research in Surgery (COORS) envisions to amplify surgical oncology research, addressing challenges in limited-resource settings. With a foundation in diverse research, from basic to social and epidemiological sciences, combined with translational efforts and pivotal clinical trials, our goal is to redefine cancer care at the Aga Khan University and beyond, focusing on innovative, cost-effective treatments and early detection. Initiated with funding supported by the Jenabai Hussainali Shariff Family, COORS is set to become a pioneering cancer research centre in Pakistan.

The Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Senior Instructor/Assistant Professor in the Centre of Oncological Research in Surgery (COORS).

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, COORS, you will be responsible to:

  • Coordinate with the team of Prospective Pakistan Brain Tumor Epidemiology Study to initiate and run it.
  • Develop a plan to initiate and manage the Biorepository of clinical/surgical samples.
  • Conduct research related to surgical oncology, preferably related to stem cell biology in surgical oncology.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Work independently and supervise research teams that include post-docs, clinical fellows, PhD students, and research staff.
  • Develop and submit intramural and extramural grant proposals.
  • Develop and foster multi-disciplinary collaboration with faculty from across AKU.
  • Oversee and manage students, ensuring thesis development and publications.
  • Ordering, procuring, funding, budgeting, and maintaining compliance with laboratory and ethical protocols.
  • Any other administrative, academic or research-related activity assigned by the Supervisor.
Requirements

You should have:

  • Masters / PhD in the relevant subject area.
  • Research active with first-hand laboratory experience.
  • Experience of supervising graduate students, post-docs, and fellows will be preferred.
  • Published in journals of international repute.
  • Good communication skills and fluency in spoken and written English.
  • A track record of extramural grant funding. Applicants will be expected to develop collaborations with faculty across the different disciplines at AKU.
