About the team

At Careem, the mission for the NextGen Programme is to help grow our engineers by learning how to support the QA function within Careem, write Clean Code and use SOLID principle techniques. The ultimate goal is to train new engineers to build excellent foundations with high standards. Our Programme covers vast areas in engineering: QA, Backend, Frontend, Web, Mobile, Data Analysis, MLOps, Infrastructure and Cyber Security.

About the role:
Our QA engineers support the QA function for a squad within Careem. New successful candidates should be passionate and experienced QA Engineers, brimming with enthusiasm and brilliant testing ideas.

What you'll do:

  • Review functional and design specifications to ensure full understanding of individual deliverables.
  • Work with the project team to provide Testing Estimates.
  • Hold & facilitate test plan/case reviews with cross-functional team members.
  • Execute & evaluate manual and/or automated test cases and report test results.
  • Hold & facilitate bug triaging meetings with cross-functional team members.
  • Participate in root cause analysis meetings with cross-functional team members.
  • Ensure that validated deliverables meet requirements.
  • Contribute proactively in sprint ceremonies or any ceremonies the squad follows.

What you'll need:

Qualifications:

  • A Computer Science degree, equivalent qualification or practical experience.
  • Minimum of 2.5 years and maximum of 4 years of experience in QA.
  • Testing certifications ISTQB - CTFL.

Characteristics:

  • Passionate about quality delivery and embrace a Quality testing mindset.
  • A solid understanding of QA/Testing technology including SDLC, STLC, and Defect life cycle.
  • Experience in programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, and Java.
  • Ability to problem solve, multi-task effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently with a strong sense of focus, task-oriented, and importantly, a team player.

Knowledge and experience in:

  • Strong practical knowledge and experience of testing methodologies: Agile, Kanban, & Waterfall.
  • Strong knowledge in development practices and processes including Unit Testing.
  • Strong practical knowledge and experience of testing techniques: integration, E2E, UAT, UI.
  • Strong practical knowledge and experience in testing methods such as Exploratory and Risk-based testing.
  • Strong practical knowledge and experience of generating test cases from requirements.
  • Strong practical knowledge and experience of defect management.
  • Strong practical knowledge and experience of testing mobile apps (Android, iOS) and web-based sites.
  • Strong practical knowledge and experience of testing different API methods and able to differentiate between the error codes.

Desirable:

  • Practical knowledge and experience of test automation tools: Sofy, BDD, Maestro, JMeter, Postman, Rest-assured, and Selenium.
  • Practical knowledge in CICD pipelines and deployment processes in a cloud-based environment, in addition to tools such as Jenkins and Bitrise.
  • Practical knowledge and experience of distributed version control systems including GIT.
