Business Title: DATABASE ENGINEER II

Primary Technology: Microsoft SQL Server
Secondary Technology (optional): Oracle, MySQL, SOLR, Elastic Search, Attunity, NIFI

Responsibilities:

  • Support, administer, and manage multi-terabyte database systems for S&P Global Market Intelligence.
  • Manage key database releases for QA, Pre-Production, Production, and DR as part of the overall SDLC.
  • Contribute to product support tools and processes, including run books, monitoring, and knowledge bases.
  • Install upgrades and patches to existing database servers.
  • Automate routine maintenance tasks using scripting technologies.
  • Analyze and solve routine problems using standard procedures.
  • Work with IT Server Management to resolve events, incidents, and problems as per the SLA.
  • Improve efficiency and quality of delivery by automating routine tasks.
  • Suggest improvements to current processes and tools.
  • Willing to work on 24/7 shifts.
  • Perform database backups and refreshes in non-prod environments.
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call tier 3 support on a weekly rotating schedule.
  • Contribute to process and troubleshooting documentation.
  • Support virtualized environments.

What We are looking for:

  • A hardcore database technologist who can lead by example and motivate peers.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Engineering.
  • 2+ years of hands-on database administration.
  • ITIL V3 Foundation Certified is a plus.
  • AZURE/AWS/GCP Certified is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with MS SQL Server and additional platforms like NoSQL, SOLR, Elastic Search, Oracle, and PostgreSQL.
  • Knowledge of Transactional Replication, Log Shipping, Mirroring, AlwaysOn, and Windows Clustering.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell or any scripting language.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems involving Client Libraries, Operating Systems, Network, and Storage.
