A LAMP stack developer uses Linux, Apaches, MySQL, and PHP to create powerful web application platforms. They also set up hardware and basic infrastructure, basic shell scripting, manage firewalls and permissions, and complete back-end tasks, such as creating and maintaining a database.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Building custom, often innovative sites, applications, and web and mobile services per established success criteria.
  • Providing support for, and maintaining existing client applications and websites.
  • Creating high-quality, well-designed, efficient and testable code in accordance with current industry standards and company best practice guidelines.
  • Analyze new requirements and provide impact analysis
  • Write clean, well-designed, reusable code and efficient unit tests
  • Review and maintain code to ensure high performance
  • Follow SOLID principles while building applications
  • Troubleshoot, test, and upgrade software and databases
  • Able to establish and be held accountable for reasonable delivery expectations.
  • Integrate new and existing apps with third-party web-based systems
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure the timely delivery of software solutions
  • Creating and maintaining comprehensive product documentation for client deliverables.
  • Contributing to estimation, technology considerations, architecture, and product planning exercises for client deliverables.
  • Monitoring website performance with a special focus on site usability - identify ways to resolve inefficiencies and optimize applications for speed and scalability.
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as requested.

Skills, Expertise, and Qualifications -

Requirements:

  • Minimum 4+ years of web development experience using PHP and MySQL (LAMP stack). Should be currently working on PHP or PHP-related frameworks
  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 3+ years of experience working with the LAMP tech stack: Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP/Perl/Python (rare exceptions for highly skilled developers)
  • Proven experience in database administration with MySQL
  • Experience working with web APIs (REST, SOAP, or XML)

Technical Skills:

  • Direct experience building complex and highly interactive sites or applications.
  • Direct experience building decoupled applications.
  • Able to work within a team environment as well as independently.
  • Deep understanding of core PHP/OOP principles
  • Firm understanding of secure coding and general development best practices.
  • Working knowledge of MySQL
  • Good knowledge of version control systems (Git; TFS is a plus but not necessary)
  • Experience working in cloud-based LAMP stack environment.
  • A strong, creative problem solver, self-motivated and tenacious when tackling tough issues.
  • A team player with energy and enthusiasm, and a high tolerance for change, ambiguity, and urgency
  • Ruby on Rails experience a big plus, but not required.
