The Rivera laboratory, part of the MGH Pathology Department and MGH Cancer Center, is affiliated with the Broad Institute. Our research focuses on using genomic technologies to identify and characterize abnormal gene regulation pathways that drive cancer cells, exploring new approaches to modulate them. We integrate biochemistry, cell biology, and genome-wide profiling techniques such as ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, RNA-seq, Hi-ChIP, and HiC. Our studies have uncovered gene regulation networks and mechanisms of chromatin regulation across various tumor types, including medulloblastoma and Ewing sarcoma, and have developed new technologies for studying chromatin states associated with repetitive elements and disordered proteins.

Research technicians join a collaborative team of scientists working on cutting-edge research. They work closely with postdoctoral fellows and contribute to experimental projects by setting up and performing experiments, assisting with hypothesis generation, experimental design, and data interpretation. Common assays include western blotting, qPCR, cloning, RNA/DNA isolation, genomic assays, lentivirus production, mammalian cell culture, and compound screening.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology required. Can experience substitute for a degree? No.
  • Prior laboratory experience (academic coursework, internships, employment), 1-2 years preferred.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of laboratory techniques, familiarity with research equipment, proficiency in data analysis and scientific software, excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and strong communication skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, manipulation, and feeling.
  • Occasional sitting, pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, foot use, and fine manipulation.
  • Constant vision, talking, and hearing.
