JOB PURPOSE
The primary purpose of the Driver is to provide safe and reliable transportation services, ensuring the timely delivery of personnel and goods to various destinations.
The Driver is responsible for maintaining the vehicle in excellent working condition, adhering to safety regulations, and assisting with logistical support when needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):
1. Safely operate UN assigned vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel, goods, and equipment following authorized routing and UN safety and security rules and regulations to ensure safe and efficient services.
2. Responsible that the assigned vehicle is kept clean and in a good condition including all equipment and vehicle is fully equipped with required travel authorizations and supplies.
3. Provide transportation support for official meetings, missions, and field visits, ensuring punctuality and adherence to road safety regulations.
4. Assist with the loading and unloading of cargo and ensure that all items are properly secured during transport.
5. Perform routine vehicle maintenance, including regular cleaning, fuelling, and checking of oil, water, brakes, and other vehicle fluids.
6. Report any mechanical faults or issues promptly and ensure that necessary repairs are carried out in a timely manner.
7. Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance, logbook of all trips, mileage, and fuel consumption.
8. Adhere to all traffic rules and regulations, both local and international, while driving UN organization vehicles and always ensuring the safety and security of passengers and cargo.
9. Familiarize oneself with the organization's security protocols and implement them during missions or field visits.
10. Assist with the collection and delivery of mail, documents, and other official items as required.
11. Follow established rules and regulations for field deliveries and/or in cases of an accident, and report immediately to the supervisor on any apparent problems, to seek for instructions and facilitate informative decisions on the way forward.
12. Support in other administrative duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education: Completion of secondary school education. Formal drivers training with a valid driver's license/certification to operate assigned vehicle following local rules and regulations.
Experience: Two or more years of work experience as a Driver, preferably in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a demonstrated safe driving record. Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans, trucks and other kinds of motorized vehicles. Experience in defensive driving is desirable.
Knowledge & Skills:
Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies, local roads/waterways and conditions, and security issues.
Knowledge of the vehicle loading capacity and other parameters.
Knowledge of driving operating rules and regulations whichever applicable.
Knowledge of safety standards and safety equipment (e.g. fire extinguishers, buoyant wearable safety devices, etc.).
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Basic skills to assist in case of emergency, knowledge of first aid basic methods.
Knowledge and ability to use radio, email, telephone and other applications.
Ability to assess vehicles for mechanical fitness and skills in minor vehicle repairs.
Ability to demonstrate a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy and tact.
Language:English and local language.
