Operational Risk Professional

The purpose of this position is to facilitate the implementation of risk management frameworks at technical or operational units, including transmission and distribution functions.

This role is responsible for guiding departments in controlling identified risks, providing consultative oversight and programs to business units with respect to risk management, and planning, designing, and implementing overall operational/engineering risk management processes.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance on ERM Framework to first line of defense, identify, assess, evaluate, categorize, prioritize, monitor, and control significant risks facing the entity.
  • Guide identifying and assessing risk and determining the adequacy and cost-effectiveness of controls.
  • Develop and implement risk dashboards to monitor key operational risks using Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Lead risk identification, assessment, and ongoing monitoring activities for high-risk operational/engineering processes.
  • Analyze, develop risk methodologies, and drive strategies, policies, procedures, and internal controls to identify issues resulting from internal and/or external audits.
  • Identify and resolve risk issues impacting the business, including conducting control reviews or gap analyses for existing processes, as needed.
  • Perform process mapping analysis and process re-engineering.
  • Review enterprise risk management system updates through periodic risk register updates.
  • Guide technical departments to finalize and fill in risk-related entries and mitigation actions within risk registers.
  • Work closely with technical departments to undertake thorough risk assessments to obtain an understanding of risks to assets, systems, and manpower, and identify threats, vulnerabilities, probabilities of occurrence, and potential impact.
  • Encourage technical departments to highlight risks without available mitigation actions.
  • Support classification of identified risks in terms of severity and probability of occurrence.
  • Prioritize high-risk areas for effective mitigation measures.
  • Monitor progress regularly to check necessary actions have been taken to mitigate risks.
  • Conduct training and awareness sessions for employees to create a culture where risks are timely identified and removed with appropriate actions.
  • Initiate steps to develop e-learning modules to create awareness of risk concepts and enterprise risk management program.
  • Ensure employees undergo initial and refresher courses every two years.
  • Coordinate risk management training as part of new employees' induction program.
  • Review monthly reports prior to submission to management, including status of identified risks and corresponding mitigation actions.
  • Review annual performance report on SSGCL and departmental risk prior to submission to management and Board Risk Committee.
  • Stay up-to-date with trends and developments in risk management significant to gas transportation and distribution industry.
  • Support senior management with risk management development and deliver risk management training.
  • Apply relevant approach in taking steps in risk reduction, acceptance, transference, and avoidance.
  • Write articles to create risk awareness for publication in company magazines.
  • Evaluate compliance to Enterprise Risk Management Framework enforced in Company while performing job responsibilities.
  • Evaluate compliance to Business Principles and Ethics Policy/Code of Conduct.
