Job Summary

The Blood Bank Technologist is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient collection, processing, testing, storage, and distribution of blood and blood components. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and adherence to established protocols and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform a range of blood bank tests including grouping, cross-matching, antibody screening, and compatibility testing.
  • Ensure accurate collection, labeling, storage, and documentation of blood and blood components.
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of blood and blood products.
  • Implement and maintain infection control, biosafety, and quality assurance protocols.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain blood bank equipment and instruments.
  • Record and report test results accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Prepare reports for internal audits and inspections.
  • Comply with hospital policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical support during blood transfusions when required.
  • Train and guide junior staff in blood bank procedures.
Requirements:

This role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and relevant experience in a medical laboratory setting. The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
