Job Title: Health Specialist

This position is a key component of the HIV/AIDS Program in Pakistan. The Health Specialist will work closely with government counterparts, NGOs, and other stakeholders to develop, manage, and implement HIV-related activities.

  • The successful candidate will have a strong background in public health programming, planning, and management, with experience in areas such as prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMCT), pediatric HIV care, and community-based HIV programs.
Responsibilities:
  1. Program Management and Development:
  • Develop and implement HIV program strategies and plans in collaboration with government counterparts and other stakeholders.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to government agencies, NGOs, and other partners on HIV-related issues.
  • Assess and strengthen capacity building initiatives for government counterparts, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
Technical Support and Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with national partners and other stakeholders to promote HIV-related issues, especially in areas such as PMTCT, pediatric HIV care, and communication for HIV.
  • Draft policy papers, briefs, and other strategic materials for use by UNICEF management, government counterparts, and other partners.
Mission Performance Monitoring and Evaluation:
  • Support the Health Specialist in monitoring and evaluating HIV-related activities, including assessments of progress, identification of bottlenecks, and recommendations for corrective action.

Achieving results requires effective collaboration and coordination among various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and other UN system partners. This role demands a high level of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to quality service delivery.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Advanced university degree in medicine, public health, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in public health programming, planning, and management, particularly in areas such as HIV/AIDS.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Urdu.
  • Familiarity with the UNICEF Competency Framework.
